FORCE USER ROBES & ARMOR

OVERVIEW

Jedi Apparel
Jedi Robes & Armor

Traditionally, Jedi wore clothes that befitted their monastic lifestyle, but variations on the theme were common, particularly after the rebirth of the Order after the Galactic Civil War. The attire usually was made in shades of brown or sometimes black, with a utility belt for various purposes, but also as a place on which to clip a lightsaber.

Boots, loose-fitting pants and a cloak typically accompanied the garment. As these garments were not usually elaborate, the outfit mirrored their attachment-free philosophy, as well as showing their requirement to live almost devoid of luxury and also their devotion to service. The apparel also allowed great freedom of movement. The rough material proved useful on survival missions, as it was strong enough to show some resistance to tearing and fraying, as well as putting the wearer through some discomfort to help sharpen their focus..

While the exact appearance of the Jedi robes varied from individual to individual and from era to era, the basic concept of simplicity and functionality was present up to the time of the Great Jedi Purge. However, during the days of the Mandalorian Wars, the styles of Jedi robes were more varied and customized.

As they progressed throughout their career and learned more of the heritage they left behind as children, some Jedi would customize their given garments to show a reflection of pride and gratitude of their homeworlds, while others would wear traditional costumes of their homeworlds altogether but kept in the traditional color scheme of the Jedi apparel.

Also, certain occupations within the Jedi Order were associated with specific variations on the traditional apparel. It was traditional for Jedi librarians to wear a variant of the traditional Jedi robes with elaborate embroidered Ansatan patterns on it.

During times of great conflict Jedi would sometimes require the use of battle armor. The ancient Jedi of the era of the Old Sith Wars would often wear parts of armor to protect certain areas of their bodies. Shoulder guards were especially common among the ranks of the ancient Jedi.

Jedi armor was designed to be light and comfortable, giving the wearer as much freedom of movement and ability to use the Force as possible. However, the freedoms provided by Jedi armor were very limited compared to those provided by traditional Jedi robes. In the ancient wars between the Jedi and the Sith, the battlefields were often so packed with combatants that moving about freely on the battlefield would have been difficult even without armor. This would result in immobile and poorly protected combatants, which may be why the Jedi of those eras chose to prioritize armor to mobility.

SITH Apparel
SITH Robes & Armor

As the dark side counterparts to the Jedi, the Sith were traditionally garbed in shades of black, this color being the very symbol of the ancient threat they represented. However, unlike the Jedi who did not believe in material possession, the position of Sith Lord was highly individualized and the personal attire of each Dark Lord reflected this.

Although similar to the clothing and armor worn by the Jedi Knights of the Galactic Republic, Sith apparel was in fact much more personalized to the wearer than its Jedi counterparts; for many Sith, their armor and robes were an integral part of their identity. For users of the dark side, though, their clothing and armor usually involved some measure of physical protection, such as traditional armor plates, cortosis weave materials, or even self-contained life support systems. Many Sith were most easily recognized by their distinctive garb and often used this to further intimidate or impress their foes and allies alike.

Many Sith robes were Force-imbued in the making, so that they could be used to enhance or assist the ability to channel the dark side of the Force. By the means of those, the wearer could call upon more strength or wisdom than they naturally would.

At the time where Revan founded his new empire, the Sith likely chose to get more practical robes. The technology itself had known fundamental improvements in the previous decades, and fairly quickly gave a more austere and high-tech look to the whole Galaxy. This is probably why individuals such as Darth Bandon, Darth Malak or even Revan himself wore such unadorned sets of clothes. The many renegade Dark Jedi who joined Revan simply clung to Jedi garment style, adapted to the dark shades of their new allegiance.

STANDARD ARMOR

OVERVIEW

Armor was a protective covering worn mainly by militants. Some examples of armor are Mandalorian armor, Sith battle suits, and light battle suits. Most armor would stop a standard blaster bolt, although only advanced, heavy battle armor could withstand a heavy cannon bolt. Specialized weapons (called disruptors) could punch through armor.

Armor was generally divided into three classes: light armor, medium armor, and heavy armor. Light armor usually came in the form of woven cloth or thin plastics. Medium armor, by far the most common, was made up of small ceramic or metal plates. Heavy armor was designed for front-line combat, and is usually fully enclosed.

Most cultures and races used armor for forms of armed conflict. Some armor was implanted with cortosis and made especially for battle with lightsabers. Mandalorian armor was some of the best armor in the galaxy, notably the Neo-Crusader armor used during the Mandalorian Wars.

In addition to soldiers and bounty hunters, armor was also worn by official guards and law enforcement. The Republic Senate Guards and Senate Commandos, charged with protecting the Galactic Senate, wore a distinctive blue armor underneath blue robes. The Onderon guards who protected the royal family on Onderon wore grey armor and helmets. The Coruscant underworld police wore armor made of leather and metal. It was not unheard of for many of the senator's personal guards and body guards to wear armor as well.

ARMOR CLASS | MEDIUM

MEDIUM ARMOR

Military Suit

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: The Military Suit was a standard-issue type of medium armor that saw widespread use in the days of the Mandalorian Wars, Jedi Civil War and Dark Wars. The suit provided good protection, but was heavier and more restrictive than some of its counterparts. Even so, many mercenaries swore that the trade-offs were worth bearing.

Echani Battle Armor

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Echani battle armor was a strong type of armor that provided solid defense at the cost of some flexibility, although it is still an Echani product and is therefore well suited to quick moving combat.

Cinnagar War Suit

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Shortly after the Great Hyperspace War, the Empress Teta system succumbed to a fascistic system of government, which led to a rise in popularity of the Cinnagar war suit. It was a highly-capable example of battle armor that continued to be used at least until the time of the Jedi Civil War and in years afterward.

Sith Battle Suit

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: The Sith battle suit was a remarkably flexible medium combat suit that was manufactured by Aratech Repulsor Company in the wake of the Jedi Civil War. The name was inspired, not developed, by the actual Sith Empire; Aratech hoped to profit from the organization's fame. This type of armor was white and black in appearance, and provided a significant amount of protection while retaining a rather high level of flexibility when compared to other armors of that weight class.

Verpine Fiber Mesh

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Verpine fiber mesh was a type of armor that was manufactured and used by the Verpine species around the time of the Jedi Civil War. During the war, the interstellar pirate Raxsus Nuli was tracked down and captured by the Jedi, who seized his many holdings. The captured loot, which included a large stockpile of Verpine weapons and armor including suits of fiber mesh, were sold at auction.

Heavy Cinnagar War Suit

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: The Heavy Cinnagar war suit was developed after the Great Hyperspace War for use by the military of the Empress Teta system. These suits were so well-made that they would still be used nearly one thousand years later during the Dark Wars. This form of armor possessed good durability, however it still retained the flexibility of medium armor.

Verpine Fibe Ultramesh

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Verpine fiber ultramesh was a type of medium weight armor manufactured by the Verpine in the days of the Old Republic. Its durability surpassed that of most heavy armor of the day.

Light Battle Armor

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Providing solid protection for a minimal cost, Light Battle Armor was considered excellent protection for entrenched troops or guards. However, this protection came at a cost of mobility, limiting its uses by rapidly advancing infantry. Still, it provided more mobility than full battle armor.

Bronzium Light Battle Armor

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Bronzium light battle armor was a cheap, mass-produced armorsuit used around the time of the Jedi Civil War and the Mandalorian Wars. It was composed of molded armor plates that were generally tougher than the standard military issue armor of the time. It was often used by local militias.

Krath Heavy Armor

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Krath heavy armor was a type of armor that was typically worn by the elite troops of the Krath, who would wear them during the various slave raids they conducted on neighboring star systems. Due to the profitable yet dangerous nature of these operations, such troops would spare no expense in wearing the best armor that was available.

Powered Light Battle Armor

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Powered light battle armor was one of the earliest attempts at power-assisted armor that saw use during the years of the Jedi Civil War and after. Dampening fields were installed in the armor to block the noise of servomotors, which added the side affect of shielding the wearer against extremes in sonic frequencies resulting from sonic-based weapons.

Krath Holy Battle Suit

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: The Krath holy battle suit was the suit of armor that was traditionally worn by Krath who guarded their dark temples during the Krath Holy Crusade. It provided resistance to elemental damage, as well as damage from some sonic frequencies.

Electromesh Armor

Class: Medium Armor

Notes: Lightweight, glossy black and form fitting, electromesh armor was often worn into battle by Nagai soldiers. The suit incorporated tiny power cells, which generated a damage absorbing electrical field around the wearer, which worked against most energy weapons, discounting lightsabers. The armor also allowed for maximum flexibility.

ARMOR CLASS | HEAVY

HEAVY ARMOR

Battle Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Battle armor was some of the heaviest armor in widespread use as of the Jedi Civil War. Designed for use by heavy militias, it had the protection needed to keep a soldier alive during ranged combat with massive weapons. Battle armor was constructed from a mesh of metal or composite plates and a padded jumpsuit. Variants of the armor included less plates and more padding for a lighter, though less protective armor, and heavier plating with molded pieces to fit the wearer.

Echani Heavy Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Echani heavy armor was a more advanced version of the light armor and more effective.

Powered Battle Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Powered battle armor was a type of armored suit that boosted the abilities of its wearer while offering good protection against most types of weapons. The micro-hydraulics of this type of powered armor provided the operator with both protection and strength enhancement. This type of armor was rarely seen outside of professional mercenaries' and soldiers' use.

Sith Battle Suit

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: The Sith battle suit was a remarkably flexible medium combat suit that was manufactured by Aratech Repulsor Company in the wake of the Jedi Civil War. The name was inspired, not developed, by the actual Sith Empire; Aratech hoped to profit from the organization's fame. This type of armor was white and black in appearance, and provided a significant amount of protection while retaining a rather high level of flexibility when compared to other armors of that weight class.

Verpine Zal Alloy Mesh

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Verpine zal alloy mesh was a type of armor that was manufactured by the Verpine during the years before and after the Jedi Civil War. The armor offered outstanding protection against most types of attacks due to its utilization of Zal alloy, however, this also increased the price of the armor immensely.

Corellian PowerSuit

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: The Corellian powersuit was a suit of powered armor of Corellian origin that was first used in the years before, during and after the Jedi Civil War. Based on early designs for Powered Battle Armor, it employed an energized exoskeleton that included a series of servomotors. These characteristics enhanced the wearer's strength.

Heavy Battle Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Heavy battle armor was virtually the heaviest armor acquirable during the Jedi Civil War. It was ideal for extreme combat situations that involved direct damage and also offered a very good level of protection in sacrifice of dexterity. Some considered it claustrophobic but that was the trade-off for safety.

Durasteel Heavy Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Durasteel heavy armor was an armor that reduced weight, but restricted movement. The armor was commony used by mercenaries, bounty hunters, soldiers, and civilians that lived in dangerous areas.

Flex Heavy Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Flex Heavy Armor was not as nimble as other forms of armor, however this drawback was compensated with its durability against blaster fire. The Jedi Exile possibly owned this type of armor.

Mandalorian Battle Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: The Mandalorian battle armor was a Mandalorian armor model that saw wide use during the Mandalorian Wars. This type of armor was employed by Mandalorian Shock Troopers and allowed them to survive long campaigns waged upon them by the Old Republic. It was particularly resilient to electrical based attacks.

Mandalorian Heavy Armor

Class: Armor | Cost : 9,500 Credits

Notes: Mandalorian heavy armor was worn by Mandalorian soldiers as an alternative to light or heavy armor. These sturdy suits possessed internal stabilizers which allowed the distribution of energy throughout the frame. This system allowed the wearer to be shielded from attacks that would normally disorient them. The armor was traditionally made of beskar and provided more protection than "normal" armor. The suit could also come with a helmet with a HUD (heads up display) which the soldier would use to control his weapons and sensors.

Mandalorian Assault Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: It was developed sometime after the Mandalorian Wars started, and used almost exclusively by 3,963 BBY. By that time it was seen in three different colors on the front lines - blue, crimson and gold. Blue was used by generic Neo-Crusaders, and crimson used by Rally Masters, while the golden armor was reserved for the Field Marshals. The armor was seen with many different armor configurations, such as a heavier standard used for the Shock Troops. As the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders comprised many different species, different designs were employed to fit the wearer. Neo-Crusader armor had a couple of functions and attributes superior to the former variety of armors, most notably that it was much stronger and could withstand more force. It also had stealth field generators to allow the warrior to pass undetected by enemy soldiers.

Felenar Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Fenelar armor was a type of flexible heavy armor produced by the mysterious Fenelar species. The armor was constructed from many exotic minerals that were rare during the days of the Old Republic, including phrik. The Fenelar were exterminated by the Mandalorian Crusaders between 5,000 and 4,000 BBY, which effectively ceased the production of new suits of their highly respected armor.

Matrix Armor

Class: Armor | Cost :

Notes: Matrix armor was a type of material and a specific armored suit. The material was used in the construction of starship hulls[1] and could be made into a heavy armored suit, which was stronger than durasteel and titanium. As such, it offered a high degree of protection, which could be improved by the use of various upgrades. Though few military engineers would call matrix armor a pretty design, it was effective. With the matrix armor plating in patterns similar to those used by fiber and mesh armor, the wearer of a suit of matrix armor could turn aside energy-weapon attacks that would otherwise be devastating.
