Welcome to STAR WARS:Knights of the Old Republic RP, an au Old Republic era based board set three years after the events of the kotor game, approximately 3953 BBY. Feel free to look around and say hello. We are accepting both originals and canons.
Melee weapons generally dealt bludgeoning, slashing, or piercing damage, depending on the design of the weapon. However, some special weapons such as the lightsaber dealt energy damage also. Although primarily used as close-combat weapons, some melee weapons such as knives, spears, and axes were also used as thrown weapons.
Melee weapons came in all shapes and sizes. Some, such as knives, were small enough to be handheld, while other much larger weapons such as the vibro-ax generally required two hands to use. Most melee weapons were simple enough to use without any special training, however some weapons such as the lightsaber, the ryyk blade, and the amphistaff had unusual and exotic designs or functions which required training if the weapon was to be used proficiently.
Melee weapons were used by military personnel and law enforcement agencies, but due to their widespread availability, civilians also made use of them. Some societies and cultures had duels or ceremonial combat that required the use of specific weapons. Not all melee weapons were used exclusively for combat. Some were used to hunt wild game, while others were used as cutting tools for slicing through underbrush or chopping down trees.
MELEE WEAPONS : BLUNT-FORCE, VIBRO, & BLADED
Class: Blunt-Force Weapon | Cost : 0-400 Credits
Notes:A quarterstaff was a pole of varying lengths, commonly made of light alloys or wood. Most notable of the many quarterstaff styles and art forms that existed was the style of the Echani. The Echani praised this weapon and used many variations of the quarterstaff. Use of this weapon dates back to pre-historic times, well before the creation of the Galactic Republic.
Notes:The electrostaff was an electronic melee weapon constructed of lightsaber-resistant phrik alloy equipped with electromagnetic pulse-generating tips.
Class: Bladed Weapon | Cost : 1750 Credits
Notes: Force pike, also referred to as a stun pole, was the name of several similar weapons that evolved independently between races and civilizations throughout the galaxy. The tip of the pole was a vibro-edged head with a stun module that could knock a full-grown Wookiee unconscious using a concentrated nerve impulse similar to that featured in the stun setting of a blaster rifle. The impulse worked by overloading the central nervous system, effectively knocking the victim unconscious. When the vibro-edge was set to maximum it could rip through steel bulkheads and easily dismember most organic beings. The control settings and power generator were located at the pike's grip.
Class: Blunt-Force Weapon | Cost : 500 Credits
Notes:A stun baton was a non-lethal short-range melee weapon that immobilized organic targets with a powerful electrical shock. It required the user to physically touch the target in order to immobilize them effectively. It is dated to be used back during the Jedi Civil War. It was usually used as a crowd-control weapon, or in place of more powerful weapons by the security forces of the Core Worlds. Varients:Exchange Negotiator, Gand Silencer, & the Gand Discharger
Class: Bladed Weapon | Cost : 1000-2500 Credits
Notes:Here is where the roots of the lightsaber begin, with traditional swords still wielded today in many primitive cultures. They are simple but effective in the right hands
Class: Bladed Weapon | Cost : 500-1500 Credits
Notes:A short sword was a basic sword, constructed of high-quality durasteel. Short swords were not quite as sophisticated as vibroblades, and were commonly found in primitive areas of the galaxy. Disregarded by most warriors, a good short sword can still serve well in combat if the user is skilled
Class: Bladed Weapon | Cost :
Notes: The design of these weapons varied greatly between individuals, but all ryyk blades were hand-constructed and were considered an extension of the wielder, much like the Wookiee relationship with their bowcasters. The average weight of a ryyk was around fifteen kilograms, but Wookiees could wield them with surprising speed and grace. The blade was first developed when the Wookiees were still technologically primitive; they were used for clearing paths through the thick forests of Kashyyyk and fending off vicious predators.
Class: Bladed Weapon | Cost : 300-400 Credits
Notes: A difficult weapon to master, the double bladed sword has a grip in the center with two long blades emerging from either end. The double bladed sword is capable of inflicting more damage-but is less precise- than the single bladed varient. Using a double bladed weapon expertly requires skill in Two Weapon fighting. Varients:Trandoshan Double-Blade
Class: Vibro Weapon | Cost : 750-2500 Credits
Notes: The vibrosword was a longer, heavier version of the vibroblade. It was generally wielded with two hands, although some beings were strong enough to wield them with one and carry two of them. Like all vibro-weapons, vibroswords were dangerous to use against electrical weapons, as they conducted electricity. Though electrocution was not the primary concern, electricity traveling up the length of the blade could connect with the weapon's energy cell and ultrasonic vibration generator. The result would be a miniature explosion with enough force to take off the user's hand. Variations:Echani Vibrosword
Class: Vibro Weapon | Cost : 500-1500 Credits
Notes: the Vibroblade's hilt or handle contained a compact ultrasonic generator, causing the blade to vibrate at an incredible speed, making even the slightest glancing blow become a gaping wound. It could be fitted with cortosis weave, allowing it to parry the blows of lightsabers and energy swords. Vibroblades were dangerous to use against electrical weapons Variations:Zabrak Vibroblade,
Class: Vibro Weapon | Cost : 750 Credits
Notes: A vibrodagger, or vibro-dagger, was a type of vibroblade that was larger than a vibroknife, yet smaller than a vibrosword.
Class:Vibro Weapon | Cost : 300-400 Credits
Notes: A vibroknife, or vibro-knife, was a blade that used an internal generator to make the blade vibrate. These vibrations could make even a glancing blow into a huge, gruesome slash, thus making it a far more effective weapon in close combat, or as a tool. These small weapons were openly used by all denizens of the galaxy, from military troops to regular citizens.
Vibro Double-Bladed Sword
Class: Bladed Weapon | Cost : 1000-2000 Credits
Notes: The Vibro double-blade was a variation of the more common vibroblade. This twin blade variation used Echani cortosis-weave technology which was heavier and less precise, but more powerful than its single-bladed cousin. The double-blade, like the double-bladed lightsaber, was difficult to master but could provide an advantage in battle.
Class: Vibro Weapon | Cost : 1500
Notes: A vibro-ax was a standard ax handle-fitted with a vibration generator and power cell, causing the ax head to vibrate rapidly, thus creating a vibroweapon. Vibroweapons had more cutting power with less effort from the wielder. Some handles were designed to dampen the vibration effect for the user, though cruder versions, such as Arg'garoks wielded by the Gamorreans, used wooden handles. These weapons were often left deactivated, simply to allow the user to show off their physical strength and to intimidate rivals, since these weapons were capable of easily decapitating most humanoid species with a single blow.
Class: Bladed Weapon | Cost :
Notes: The axe could be used as a tool, a melee weapon, or a thrown weapon. Some axes were modernized by being constructed of more advanced materials; these were commonly found in explorers' shops. An advanced version of the axe was the vibro-ax. The axe had the advantage of being legal nearly everywhere because no one thought to outlaw such a simple tool. Medium-sized, one-handed axes were crafted so that they could be used effectively as a thrown weapon.
A rifle was a type of firearm that was generally larger and more powerful than a pistol. Rifles could also fire at greater range than pistols, but required the shooter to wield the weapon with both hands in order to use it properly. Rifles varied in size and power from the popular blaster rifle, to the less-used slugthrower rifle, to the powerful light repeating blaster. Another type of rifle was the sniper rifle, which was used to fire at targets at long range. Sniper rifles often had a bipod and targeting scope to aid in targeting at extreme distances.
Many rifles had a switch that enabled the shooter to switch firing modes from single-shot mode to autofire mode, that is, rapid automatic fire. A few rifles were only able to fire in autofire mode such as the heavy assault blaster rifle and the light repeating blaster. Some blaster rifles had a switch that enabled the shooter to switch to a non-lethal stun damage setting, however the range was extremely limited within approximately 9 meters.
A blaster carbine had a short barrel and compact two-handed grip, making it look more like a long pistol than a rifle. Carbines offered distinct advantages from other weapons. First and foremost, they were generally shorter and lighter than their heavier cousins, and allowed for more capabilities especially in confined environments; they also had a faster rate of fire than a typical blaster rifle. In addition, carbines were often cheaper to produce than ordinary rifles. In exchange for these advantages however, they had a shorter range, less accuracy and less stopping power. Blaster carbines had a short-range stun setting as well as an autofire setting, which allowed the weapon to fire multiple shots at a greater area instead of the more accurate single-shot mode. The blaster carbine cost 850 credits without a retractable stock and 900 credits with that accessory. Its ownership and use was regulated by local authorities
RANGED WEAPONS : BLASTER RIFLES & CARIBNESS
Ion Blaster Rifle
Class: Ion | Cost : 800 Credits
Notes: Unlike the less customizable carbines, rifles can be upgraded. Ion weapons cannot utilize most power pack upgrades, however. While Ion weapons are generally less damaging against organic opponents, they are powerful against droids. Also, ion damage can penetrate some defense blaster fire cannot. Varients:Bothan Droid Disruptor, Verpine Droid Disruptor, Verpine Droid Disintegrator
Class: Energy | Cost : 900 Credits
Notes: Unlike the less customizable carbines, rifles can be upgraded. Ion weapons cannot utilize most power pack upgrades, however. While Ion weapons are generally less damaging against organic opponents, they are powerful against droids. Also, ion damage can penetrate some defense blaster fire cannot.
Class: Energy, Ion, Sonic | Cost : 1,000 Credits
Notes: A blaster carbine was a shortened variant of an already existing weapon, traditionally blaster rifles. They offered distinct advantages from other weapons. Varients:Zabrak Blaster Carbine, Slavemaster Stun Carbine, Disruptor Carbine, Charric">, Sonic Carbine, Repeating Blaster Carbine
Repeating Blaster Rifle
Class: Energy, Ion, Sonic | Cost : 1,000+ Credits
Notes: Repeating blasters, or Repeat Blasters or Repeaters, were blaster or projectile weapons that could fire many rounds in a short time intervals. Several variants existed, but these weapons could generally be divided into two major categories: personal repeating blasters, and mounted repeating blasters, it was normally mounted on a tripod and is portable. It has also been mounted on ships such as the T-16 skyhopper, but this is not common. Varients:Combat Enforcer, Onderon Repeating Carbine, Mandalorian Heavy Repeater
Class: Energy, Ion, Sonic | Cost : 1,000-30,000 Credits
Notes: A blaster rifle was a designation given to certain types of offensive blaster weaponry, typically with a longer barrel than other types of blasters. Rifles were heavy duty blaster variants, much more powerful than a pistol, although heavy weapons were more powerful than rifles. Most rifles came equipped with a stun setting, used to temporarily disable an opponent. Blaster rifles had a retractable stock and weighed about 4.5 kg for most models. The ideal range for the weapon was roughly 30-60+ meters.. Varients:Arkanian Blaster Rifle, Plasma Projector, Mandalorian Assault Rifle, Droid Assassin's Rifle, Zersium Rifle
A pistol was a type of one-handed firearm that was generally smaller and less powerful than a rifle or carbine. Pistols had a lesser range than rifles, but they were advantageous since they could be wielded in one hand. Pistols varied in size and power from the ubiquitous blaster pistol to its cousins the larger heavy blaster pistol and the much smaller and easily concealed hold-out blaster pistol. Other types of pistols included the slugthrower pistol which fired bullets and similar projectiles, the ion pistol which was used to disable droids, the stun pistol designed for non-lethal crowd control, and the deadly disruptor pistol which was able to disintegrate its targets.
Many blaster pistols had a close-range stun setting, meaning the wielder could switch the weapon to fire stun shots instead of lethal fire, however the close-range stun setting was limited to a range of only 9 meters.
Pistols, especially blaster pistols, are manufactured by thousands of different companies and found everywhere in the galaxy and in virtually every era. They are used by nearly all types of persons, including nobles, soldiers, bodyguards, bounty hunters, law enforcement agents, merchants, and anyone in need of basic firepower, personal protection, or a backup weapon.
Notes: Heavy blaster pistols were basically cut-down blaster rifles, utilizing a more highly powered gas chamber, firing larger, more damaging bolts with a wider beam. Though bulkier and heavier than blaster pistol, the heavy blasters advantage was the firepower. It had power comparable to a blaster rifle but a shorter range than the typical blaster pistol. The power pack was generally the same size as a standard pistol and was consumed at a considerably higher rate than a typical blaster pistol. Varients:Arkanian Heavy Pistol, Mandalorian Heavy Blaster, Zabrak Heavy Blaster
Notes: Ion blasters, or ionization blasters, were any handheld weapons that fired ion energy instead of blaster bolts. They were commonly used in response to droids and other technology on the battlefield. An ion blaster bolt disrupted electrical systems, overriding charges and melting fuses, destroying circuits and effectively rendering any kind of technology useless. The prevalence of assassin droids and war droids during and after the Great Sith War resulted the creation of advanced ion weapons to combat them. Ion blasters were developed following HK-01's Great Droid Revolution, and continued to be useful weapons against mechanized forces. Varients:Aratcech Droid Oxidizer, Aratech IonMaster
Class: Sonic | Cost : 250 Credits
Notes: Sonic pistols were ranged weapons similar to blaster pistols, that created a high-intensity sonic blast powerful enough to shatter solid objects and cause devastating injuries to sentients.
Designed as civilian's response to Jedi and Sith using lightsabers to deflect their attacks, the sonic pistol fired compressed bolts of pure sound at its target. Though slightly less powerful than standard energy weapons such as blasters and pulse-wave weapons, the sonic pistol was particularly effective against Jedi and Sith because the weapon's sonic bolt bent around the lightsaber, striking the target despite the intervention of the lightsaber's energy blade. Varients:Systech Aural Blaster, Arkanian Sonic Blaster, Heavy Sonic Blaster, Dashade Sonic Blaster, Dashade Sonic Disruptor
Grenade was a catch-all term for any self-contained explosive device, usually thrown by hand, but sometimes launched from a grenade launcher, which was useful in infantry combat. Grenade was a hand-held explosive device. There were several types of grenade which were different in purposes.
Mines were a type of explosive which exploded upon proximity to movement. There were many variants of mine, including models used on land and models used in space. A mine was any explosive designed to be concealed and detonated whenever enemies were nearby. There were hundreds of different varieties of mine made by a variety of manufacturers.
There were several different types of anti-personnel mine. Most were triggered by physical pressure, such as a footstep. Other mines used a beam projector attached to a shaped charge that triggered when the beam was broken. Still other varieties used timers or motion sensors.
Ranged Ordnance : Grenades
Class: Sonic | Cost : 500 Credits
Notes: As their name suggests, they used intense waves of sound to incapacitate their targets. Typically producing a sudden burst or 'squeal' of very high frequency sound, they were used to incapacitate organic enemies by causing piercing, intense pain in hearing organs. They could render most species helpless by inflicting deafness temporarily or even permanently on an unlucky target. Some models were powerful enough to damage materials tougher than hearing organs and not limited to organics.
Class: Shrapnel | Cost : 100-500 Credits
Notes: The grenade was similar to the thermal detonator in use, with the significant difference that the frag grenade was far less powerful. These standard version of this grenade utilized metal shrapnel when they exploded. Additionally, these were designed to explode on contact. The typical blast radius was about 4 meters. While this was somewhat smaller than the blast radius of a typical thermal detonator, in short range battles this was actually advantageous, making it easier to use fragmentation grenades without friendly forces being caught in the blast. These items were highly restricted despite their common use. Because of their small size and weight, about 0.5 kilograms, detection of these weapons could be difficult.
Class: Concussive | Cost : 400 Credits
Notes: The concussion grenade, sometimes referred to as concussion bomb, was a common grenade in widespread use since before the formation of the Galactic Republic and evolved little over thousands of years. There were three main designs of concussion grenades. The first one was a fairly standard grenade, used by many factions. It exploded with a small blast radius, releasing a blast of kinetic energy that would kill most organics and damage equipment. A sonic shockwave was expelled in the explosion that stunned anyone right outside the 4 meter blast radius. The second kind did not detonate in a traditional sense. The common blast radius was 4 meters, fairly large for a hand-held explosive. It created only the sonic shockwave, stunning anybody hit by it rather than killing or wounding them. The third kind, designed for use against vehicles and equipment. The grenade was very useful against vehicles that were fast or slow moving because of its tendency to stick to a vehicle's armor. The grenade was not used much against organics, due to its small blast radius.
Class: Cold | Cost : 500-800 Credits
Notes: The CryoBan grenade was a type of grenade originally designed as a form of emergency fire suppressant. Using technology adapted from the carbon freezing process, the CryoBan grenade covered those in its blast radius with supercooled chemicals, causing pain and making movement impossible. Used as a weapon, it could trap a person or object within the ice formed by the blast; the cold itself could also be lethal to living beings and damage equipment such as droids and vehicles.
Class: Ion | Cost : 300 Credits
Notes: Ion grenades were electronic disruption hand grenades used around 4000 BBY in the Old Republic era. Upon impact, the ion grenade triggered an ion burst with a three meter radius capable of disabling droids, automated turrets or other electronic devices.
Class: Plasma | Cost : 600 Credits
Notes: A plasma grenade was a type of grenade that exerted pressurized gas similar to the Cold grenade, except it ignited into flames when it reached the outside atmosphere. This type of grenade was not very common.
Notes: The thermal detonator was designed to be thrown by a soldier, planted in a specific location or on a specific vessel, or dropped by a vehicle. It would then adhere to any metallic object until it detonated. The name was descriptive of the process by which the device explodes. Inside the shell, which was generally made of thermite or axidite, was a sample of baradium, a highly volatile substance. A trigger emitted a short burst of energy that forced the baradium into a state of fusion reaction. This trigger could simply be a button. Some had a fail-deadly trigger, meaning that if it was released, it would set off the grenade. The result was an expanding particle field that could atomize any material that did not conduct heat or thermal energy within the fixed blast radius; typically five meters, though some had an even greater radius. Custom grenades could have a blast up to 100 meters. Unlike other grenades, a thermal detonator's blast would only go as far as its blast radius. After that, the blast field would collapse, and anything even slightly beyond the blast radius would be left unharmed.
Class: Explosive | Cost : 550-2,000 Credits
Notes: A mine was any explosive designed to be concealed and detonated whenever enemies were nearby. Varients: Frag, Flash, Plasma, Poison
