THE Jedi Order

HEAD OF ORDER: Grand Master Vima Sunrider
LEADER: The Grand Master
GOVERNING BODY: The Jedi High Council

HISTORY

Many ancient and semi-legendary organizations have been proposed to be the forerunners of the Jedi Order, including the Order of Dai Bendu,2 the Followers of Palawa, and the Chatos Academy. No conclusive links have ever been demonstrated, though. It is purported that early Jedi learned morality from the Caamasi.

The earliest documentation of the existence of the Jedi Order indicates that the organization was formally founded on Tython around 25,783 BBY, several hundred years before the founding of the Galactic Republic. The galaxy’s best philosophers, priests, scientists, and warriors had come together here millennia before to discuss their discoveries involving the enigmatic and mystical Ashla. Unfortunately, many became seduced by the dark and destructive side of the Ashla, called the Bogan, and sought to seize power. The resulting Force Wars devastated Tython for over a decade

Around 25,053 BBY, the Galactic Republic formed. Within a century, the Jedi swore fealty to the young government. The Republic mapped the Perlemian Trade Route, which linked Coruscant with Ossus, and the Jedi fortified themselves there to defend the Republic and the Slice colonists from external threats

In the event historians now know as the First Great Schism, dissidents who used the Bogan eventually arose again. The Dark Jedi General Xendor and his Legions of Lettow allied with a master of Teräs Käsi, Arden Lyn, and her Followers of Palawa from Bunduki. In a climactic battle, Xendor was slain, Jedi Master Awdrysta Pina stopped Arden’s heart with morichro, and Lyn killed [Jedi Master Awdrysta Pina|Pina]] with the Kashi Mer talisman.

The Republic and Jedi fortified Ossus, Falang Minor, and Haashimut to protect the Perlemian from the Tionese and Hutts

In 7,000 BBY the Jedi suffered the Second Great Schism, resulting in the Hundred-Year Darkness. This conflict ended with the Battle of Corbos 6,900 BBY. The surviving Dark Jedi fled to Ziost and founded the Sith Empire.

Organization of the Jedi Order

During the Force Wars, the first Jedi formed a central political entity called the Jedi High Council. The High Council was a gathering of great minds that acted as a governing body for the Order, eventually serving as an advisory board for the Office of the Supreme Chancellor following the Order's joining the Republic. The High Council was made up of twelve members at a time, a tradition established as early as the Great Hyperspace War.

Membership on the Jedi High Council was decided by the standing Council and was made up of a series of different terms. Consisting of five lifetime members, four members who stayed on the Council until they chose to step down, and three short term members, who changed regularly and sat on the Council for a relatively short period of time, this method kept the voices and opinions of the Council fresh and focused. While membership was usually restricted to Jedi Masters, exemptions were sometimes made; allowing a Knight to sit on the Council should certain insight be needed or if they are in the transitional stage before formal elevation.

For several generations, the Order was overseen by three additional Councils that oversaw various responsibilities within the Order. The Council of First Knowledge oversaw the Jedi academy housed within the Coruscant Temple, in addition to direct oversight of satellite training academies and libraries. The members of the Council of First Knowledge were looked upon for advice in situations needing to be contrasted with the past. Jedi on this Council were sometimes former members of the High Council, and could give a different perspective on current events based on past decisions and mistakes. Instead of advising the Supreme Chancellor, the Council of Reconciliation worked closely with the Republic Diplomatic Corps in order to assist in the acquisition of new member worlds in the Senate. Assigning Jedi Diplomats and Ambassadors to implement treaties and welcome new people into the Republic, the Reconciliation Council's members worked very closely with the Senators on Coruscant. Finally, the Council of Reassignment oversaw the Jedi Service Corps and the placement of individuals who failed the Jedi Trials or were deemed unfit to continue along the standard path of the Jedi Knights.

The decisions of these four Councils have shaped the progress of the Republic as well as the Order. When the High Council of the era refused to enter the Mandalorian Wars and took a more passive stance on the issue until they could assess it, a group of disenchanted Jedi known as the Revanchists rose up and incited the Jedi Civil War nearly wiping out the Order..

ASTROGRAPHY | Jedi Planets

IMPORTANT LOCATIONS

Coruscant

REGiON : Republic Space | System: Coruscant

Coruscant was a planet located in the Galactic Core. It was generally agreed that Coruscant was, during most of galactic history, the most politically important world in the galaxy. Over the centuries, Coruscant had developed into an ecumenopolis. The actual planet-wide metropolis of Coruscant was called Galactic City. Under the Galactic Republic, the names Republic City or the City of Spires were also used to reference the city.

Tython

REGiON : Republic Space | System: Tython

Tython was a terrestrial planet located within the Tython system of the Deep Core. The ancestral homeworld of the Jedi Order, Tython was host to the first society of Force-users in known history, in 36,453 BBY. Following the destruction of the Cron Cluster and the ensuing ruination of Ossus, the Jedi Order had relocated to Coruscant; records of Tython's existence survived to this point, and notation of Sith experiments on the planet were made in the Archives of the Jedi Temple.

Ilum

REGiON : Republic Space | System: Ilum

lum was an ice planet in the Unknown Regions, one of the main sources of the valuable Adegan crystals used in the construction of Jedi lightsabers. The caverns containing the crystals were long ago turned into a Jedi temple. Unlike the crystals of other planets, the crystals of Ilum were limited to blue and green in color. The planet was over ninety percent ice.

Ossus

REGiON : Republic Space | System: Adegan

Known to the galaxy since before 25,000 BBY, when the Jedi expanded there from the planet Tython and established a Jedi Academy, Ossus would become a popular world of the Galactic Republic. This world would also become a place of great importance to the Jedi, as the site where they stored the sum of their knowledge However when the Jedi Knight Exar Kun turned to the dark side, he attacked Ossus, desiring Sith secrets hidden by the Jedi. During the events this action incited, the Cron Cluster was detonated, spreading a shockwave around the galaxy. Originally a rich, lush world, Ossus was ravaged into an arid and toxic planet when the wave struck the planet.

Telos IV

REGiON : Republic Space | System: Telos

Telos IV, often called simply Telos, was the fourth world within the Telos system, located in the Outer Rim Kwymar sector. Situated on the strategically-important Hydian Way hyperlane, on the edge of Galactic Republic-controlled space, the Telosian military and economic power bases were considered vital to the survival of the Republic. In addition, the planet played host to the Agricultural Corps, where Jedi who had failed their training were sent to work as farmers and laborers.
